Transforming the Animal Welfare System – Banks Baker, McDonalds Corporation interview by AgFunder

Banks Baker, McDonalds Corporation

A great interview published in AgFunder News this week with Banks Baker, Manager of Animal Welfare and Agriculture at McDonald’s. He discusses the role of the restaurant chain in promoting animal welfare throughout its supply network, pinpointing many of the critical themes around technology development and adoption that we’ll be discussing in depth next month at the Animal AgTech Innovation Summit.

Banks says: “We have committed $2 million over two years to identify technology that can help us monitor welfare at the farm level. We partnered with the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research, which matched our $2 million.

“We released a global open request for proposals and used that $4 million as a bounty for tech that can help us automatically monitor and report key welfare indicators. We are finalizing those participants and hope to announce them at Animal AgTech.”

Banks is among the 50 expert speakers at the Animal AgTech Innovation Summit in San Francisco on Monday March 16. His Fireside Chat – Transforming the Industry from Farm to Fork through Collaboration, alongside Karen Christensen from Tyson Foods and Tim Kurt from FFAR – will be a must-see for many of our delegates!
