Martha Scott Poindexter

Martha Scott Poindexter is the President and CEO of the Animal Health Institute (AHI), a position she has held since May 2025. AHI represents companies that develop and produce animal medicines and diagnostics. The organization’s members are global leaders, whose products improve the health of nearly 10 billion companion and food-producing animals in the U.S., resulting in significant economic, health, and social benefits for Americans.

Poindexter has a strong background in global agriculture and trade. Prior to joining AHI, she served as Chief Operating Officer for the U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC). Poindexter served as Vice President of Government and Industry Affairs for North America for agribusiness company Bunge, and as a Director of Government Relations for Monsanto prior to its acquisition by Bayer.

She also brings significant senior-level government experience. Poindexter was the first woman to serve as Staff Director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture and the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. She wrote numerous farm bills and other significant legislation concerning agriculture, nutrition, national security, and intelligence.

As President and CEO of AHI, she leads industry efforts to accelerate product development innovations. Currently, the organization is working to reform the regulatory approval processes at the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Veterinary Medicine and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Center for Veterinary Biologics. Additionally, she is working to help AHI members support the innovative eco-system to create new medicines, biologics and diagnostics necessary to ensure animal welfare, prevent diseases from passing between animals and humans, and protect our food supply.

Poindexter has deep agricultural roots, growing up in the Mississippi Delta on a cotton, rice, and soybean farm. She is a graduate of Mississippi State University and the University of Maryland’s Pre-professional Nutrition Program becoming a registered dietitian.
