Luis Tedeschi
Professor, Chancellor EDGES and AgriLife Research Fellow,
TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY
Dr. Tedeschi is a Professor, Texas A&M AgriLife Research Fellow, and Chancellor EDGES Fellow at the Department of Animal Science, as well as an Honorary Professor at the Dipartimento di Scienze Agraria at the University of Sassari, Italy. He is internationally recognized for his accomplishments in modeling ruminant nutrition. His family's beef ranch operations and education provided him with the essential skills to pursue this path before he joined Texas A&M University in 2005. His impactful research and outreach efforts have fostered successful partnerships. Tedeschi's innovative approach to the partitioning of energy in growing cattle led to the development of decision support tools (DST) to assess the energy efficiency of beef and dairy cattle. Together with collaborators, he established the fundamentals and calculation logic behind the Cattle Value Discovery System (CVDS), a computer model based on the National Research Council's 2000 edition of Nutrient Requirements of Beef Cattle. Their work also introduced groundbreaking concepts around the mechanistic formulation of body fat deposition, enabling the determination of optimal days on feed for maximizing profit in group-fed animals. Additionally, Tedeschi serves on the Modeling Committee of the National Animal Nutrition Program, which oversees modeling efforts related to livestock production. He also chairs the Area of Excellence in Quantifiable Animal Production in the Department of Animal Science.
