Ian Lahiffe
Ian Lahiffe has been based in China for fourteen years and has his own market consultancy business called Jing Management. Ian is very active in the agri-food technology space in China, working on a range of projects, including food traceability systems, technology acceleration and working to develop exchanges between China’s nascent beef sector and international best practice. Ian has co-founded 7 companies, including Just Be Cha, a Beijing-based Kombucha company. Ian writes regularly on Chinese agri-technology and market trends, and is in demand as a speaker in China, and internationally. Ian is an Industry Mentor to Bit x Bites, China’s first agri-food accelerator, and a Mentor on China Agricultural University’s Elite Cattleman Programme and previously led the MSD Animal Health Intelligence business in Asia and Alltech Biotech in China.
Lahiffe grew up on a dairy farm in Ireland. He studied Music and Modern Irish at Trinity College, where he was Organ Scholar and Conductor of Trinity Orchestra and Trinity Singers. He has been a lay clerk at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, and has held down a number of professional organist positions in Dublin and London. He completed a master’s degree International Studies and Diplomacy at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, before moving to Beijing to work for the European Union. He also completed a postgraduate diploma in Mandarin studies (on a Chinese government scholarship) at Xi’an Jiaotong University and speaks fluent Mandarin.
